Forgotten stuff

Really enjoyed catching up on the photos and news. Kris you have done a great job posting. Loved seeing the bleach gifts and photos from the Felt workshop since I could not attend.
Jodie and Shannon thanks for the color inspirations.
Photos from a road trip in July, selective color and forgotten stuff.

Colors of Honduras and Belize

I was completely inspired by the colors of the places we traveled this summer. I can't wait to turn some of these images into encaustic paintings. Kris you have done such a great job of adding to this page on a consistent basis. Bravo to you.

Here are the beauties!

Sheila Pepe Lecture

Went to see Sheila Pepe from NYC speak at MCAD. Amazing, crocheted installations made of yarn, industrial rubber bands, shoelaces, boat rope, etc. She creates some of the pieces ahead of time, and also crochets right in the exhibition space to complete the work. In some pieces she is also working with the shadows the installation casts on the floor and walls, even free-form drawing images right on the walls of the gallery. One of the most impressive pieces was a huge yarn installation that she invited viewers to wind onto their own needles to unravel and re-knit, erasing the original piece. She was generous with her time and sincere in answering audience questions. A great lecture! Jodie- I posted these because of our work with 'the tubes' we're crocheting and knitting. I love the idea of creating something unexpected with them, even though I have no idea what that may turn out to be!

When I was in Portland...

Sooo long ago. The AP retreat with Shannon's students was
incredible! We made monoprints and books and a bonfire on the beach and I had an adventure that involved leaving my wallet hours and hours
from anywhere convenient. Sushi and fun with Scarlet and family, and a crazy trip to the Goodwill finished it all off. Thanks, Friends!

What's next?

Oils: I am revisiting this old unfinished friend that I just pulled out of storage.
Not sure what will happen to it next.

Encaustic: I have started a piece which involves plaster molds of my ears. Should be interesting;) I'll be posting a pic soon.

In other news: Is it ever going to stop raining??? I am beginning to worry that my garden will only be halfway planted this year and we will have to wait months to finish painting the house. Ugh. In the mean time I have been doing some major closet purging.

Projects with Scarlet:)

Check out this cute tea set Scarlet painted:)

Repair gone bad

I noticed that my original image (of Scarlet) was slowly detaching itself so i tried a quick fix by removing the original image (on vellum--note to self: Don't collage in encaustic with vellum) and replacing it with a photocopy and the result is not that great. I think this one is going to need a complete over-haul.

Birds eye view response

Studio night for me!

I made these two Encaustic pieces using stencils and layering from dark to light on the left, and from light to dark on the right. The second piece is actually about 1/3 the size of the first one.
