Some Randomness

Scarlet learning to "sew".

Scarlet and Zoe playing.

My studio shelves: organization much improved.

An Embroidery sampler.

I finally have a top for my new desk and it looks like I will actually be able to finish it before too long. Yay!

Collection, Tubes: Kris & Jodie

Ok so as for the collection, thus far I have about two things I remembered to put dates on, and I have since abandoned that part cause I didn't want to have to go back and fake it...But I am thinking about starting to draw these objects and play around with them as the collection grows.

Next is a pic of our felted tubes on my ironing board. I have a few more felted pieces that are ready to go through my sewing machine and then I will send them back to you to ponder:)

Free as a Bird for Shannon

The idea for this image of Scarlet started with a photograph that I manipulated on the computer, printed, drew into, scanned, manipulated again, and finally printed and traced onto a thin tissue paper and put into this encaustic piece.

I'm playing with this image in different ways--so I'm sure there will be more to come. As for now--I have more things to post!

For Jodi - Birds Eye View

Jodi - Here she blows. I'm pretty sure we agreed to do something different but on a flight to New York I spent a little time looking out the window at my "birds eye view" of the world. When I got home I created this image for our project. The texture on top of the image is meant to simulate the wind/movement created by birds in flight.

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to mail this image. It's fragile. Can we arrange a time to meet so that I can give you the image for inspiration?

Hope to see you soon. S

Birds of a Feather Flock together - Kris

Miss Kris - I loved receiving your bird paintings. The crow is my spirit animal and I was very drawn to the crow image you created. The colors were also very inspiring. Using the colors and the crows I created two "Birds of a Feather." I was thinking about how are lives are parallel to each other, we have so many similarities. While I was making these two crows I thought of all the adventures we have been on together. I made them late at night in an attempt to channel my inner Kris!

These pictures were taken with my iphone, not the best quality. I can't send you the actual work yet, the oil bar I used on the top will be wet for awhile. When they are dry I will send them your way. Enjoy.

Epic Chickens for Susan

Time in the studio has been long overdue and much enjoyed today. Even though the sun is out and I should be outside I found myself drawn to the studio to create work!

So Susan, we chose to focus on, A Bird in the Hand is Worth Two in the Bush. I went literal and chose the medium of photography. Photography is a media you love and I wanted to explore this concept with something beyond encaustic. I thought maybe you could use the images to create those beautiful emulsion lifts? Who knows.

Emma and I went out and played with the chickens today. She literally had, "Birds in her Hand." These are epic chicken photos! Beautiful portraits of lovely ladies.

White chicken - Epic Mister
Dark chicken - Epic Gladys
Speckled chicken - Epic Pebbles
Dark orange chicken - Epic Ginger

I will send you copies of the actual images for your viewing pleasure! Have fun....can't wait to see how these inspire you.
