What's next?

Oils: I am revisiting this old unfinished friend that I just pulled out of storage.
Not sure what will happen to it next.

Encaustic: I have started a piece which involves plaster molds of my ears. Should be interesting;) I'll be posting a pic soon.

In other news: Is it ever going to stop raining??? I am beginning to worry that my garden will only be halfway planted this year and we will have to wait months to finish painting the house. Ugh. In the mean time I have been doing some major closet purging.

Projects with Scarlet:)

Check out this cute tea set Scarlet painted:)

Repair gone bad

I noticed that my original image (of Scarlet) was slowly detaching itself so i tried a quick fix by removing the original image (on vellum--note to self: Don't collage in encaustic with vellum) and replacing it with a photocopy and the result is not that great. I think this one is going to need a complete over-haul.

Birds eye view response

Studio night for me!

I made these two Encaustic pieces using stencils and layering from dark to light on the left, and from light to dark on the right. The second piece is actually about 1/3 the size of the first one.

Pfaff Sewing Machine Free-Motion Quilt Foot

You need something like this, Kris. So do i! FUN! There are lots of different brands out there so you should be able to find one that fits your machine. You could draw your image on the fabric with a water soluble fabric pen or you could use an iron stabalizer that you can later tear away. You can also sew on paper:) To sew on a large sheet of paper is a pain cause you have to roll it as you turn so you can fit the whole thing under the machine. OOoooooh I really must get one of these!

What have I been up to?

An oil painting--I think it's just about finished.

A mermaid couple for my neice's first Birthday.

Thank you Kris for taking these pics while you were here and sending them to me so I would finally post them! It was so fun and inspiring to see you, as always and we can't wait until next time!

Catching Up

So, I didn't post in April, but that didn't mean I wasn't making things in April! A few fantastic trips, and one long illness, and I'm back with a few images. I hope to have even more studio time in May.

Books in Oregon!

I am honored to be coming to Oregon to make books with the Lakeridge High art students! (These are Montana Art students from a workshop in April.) See you all on the West Coast soon!

Bird Models!

Had a fantastic opportunity to sit in with students drawing live raptors. The owl was so calm, and the hawk flapped it's wings so close, I could feel the wind on my face!

Bird Bag

Bought this bag from an artist on the road. Birds.
Love the free form sewing machine stitching as line drawing. Does anyone know how this works? A special sewing machine foot? Jodie? I'd like to try it.

Shadow Shirts from April

Shadow photos got me thinking about the shadow a bird casts in flight. (Did you know even tiny just-hatched chickens panic when a shadow passes overhead? Instinct, I guess.) Played with a new way of bleaching by laying a cut out on the fabric and spraying the bleach on, creating a shadow in a sunburst image. (Might be interesting as water, too.)

Shadows

Playing with photos of shadows (Dad and I) in the park...

Shirts from March

More bleach drawings on shirts. Working to control the line.
