Where are the Birds??

I am struggling to find bird-themed inspiration for our project. I've hung suet outside to entice the chickadees, tracked woodpeckers in the pines, researched birds online. They just don't seem to be doing it for me. Last night, I spent a few pleasant hours cutting out bird shapes, and silhouettes from artisan paper, with a teeny tiny scissors and messing with them on the blocks. I really like the negative shapes in the cutouts and I reinforced the edges of the owls talons, woodpecker beak, etc so i can use these for stencils. I don't really know where this is going...

  1. I'm having a hard time with inspiration as well. I'm trying not to think of it so literally--maybe that's cheating a little, though-I'm not sure.

  2. Awww, I just lost my comment I was working on about your birds. I clicked to make the picture bigger and the comment was gone. :(

Ok, here I'll try again. I really like the graphic quality of the middle bird. It really draws me in for some reason, I think it's the diagonal line across the blue shape. I like all three, but I keep going back to the middle one. I also like the way it wraps over the edge.

  3. Thanks, Connie- I like the sweeping lines of the crow wing feathers, and think he has the most movement. The owl talons intrigue me, too. I appreciate your comments.
Jodie- Good suggestion for thinking less literally. I wish I could get there with this project, thanks for reminding me to open up my process. :)
