Well - I feel like I'm beginning to reconnect with the world now that Scholastic is almost over. Whew... such a treat to be involved but oh so time consuming. There's a big show in LO called the Festival of the Arts. They always have a 'special' exhibit and this year it's encaustic! The deadline to submit work is Feb 1, of course! I have two pieces I know I'm going to enter but this one, pictures included, is one I would really like to finish and enter. Nothing like a deadline to get you motivated and into the studio.
I wanted to play with positive and negative. I've always struggled with the way I use encaustic, feel like I don't honor the medium well. So, I created a rocking background with many layers and have 'carved' the rooster out of the background using oil bars and wax. I'm building the surface a little and letting the background speak for itself in other areas. I need to work the back end a little more and then I think I'll let it go to the wind. Any thoughts or suggestions in the immediate future, like this week, would be appreciated.
